My research interests include prostate cancer, racial differences among the disease, long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), vitamin D deficiency and fusion genes. Currently, among men prostate cancer is the second most diagnosed cancer worldwide however these statistics greatly differ between men of African and European descent. Statistics highlight that men of African descent have 60% higher incidence and a 2.5 times greater mortality rate than their European counterparts. The reasons for these differences are still largely unknown. My project focuses on identifying whether lncRNAs, vitamin D deficiency and fusion genes have a part to play in these racial differences.
